Opalized Deschutes Jasper Cabochon

Deschutes is a more rare picture jasper, as it was not a very plentiful deposit when it was accessible. This beautiful material was formed in the hillsides of Northern Oregon, just across the road from the Columbia River. Just as quickly as it was found, it became off limits. The remnants of what once was a dig site, is now nestled in a protected area of the Deschutes national park. Collecting is prohibited and mining of this material will likely never happen again.
