Indian Paint Stone Cabochon

Indian Paint Stone is a rare material that has been referred to as a rhyolite or sandstone like composition. When working this material, it feels like you’re trying to shape and polish a piece of chalk. Because of this, the polish ends up being more of a matte finish, with the black streaks of hematite taking a lovely polish and contrasting fiercely. Collecting of this material is no longer possible, as the area is now a national park.
